Outdoor Activities and Destinations in Irving

With the epic freeze and temperatures that have kept us indoors through the winter, everyone’s gunning to get back out and take advantage of warmer weather. As spring approaches, it’s time to start planning ideas to get your family back in the sun and in nature. To get you started, take a look at some of the best warm outdoor activities and destinations for family fun in Irving.

Centennial Park

For outdoor beauty and a celebration of the city of Irving, visit Centennial Park. The entrance is flanked by statues of the city’s founders, with a history wall near the fountain. Enjoy the peace of the lake, lighted concrete trails to explore, and picnic tables and grills for eating and family fun. Rent the large pavilion, which is adorned with a 30-foot tall light spike, meant to symbolize the shining future of Iriving.

Children’s Aquarium

Open since 1936, the Children’s Aquarium was redesigned in 2021 and has been a part of Dallas and Irving heritage for over 85 years. The eye-level viewing is designed especially for children, and many exhibits are interactive to keep children involved. Learn about the aquatic life in oceans, rivers, and lakes, including sharks, stingrays, and more. Join special events throughout the year for good, family fun.

Dinosaur Valley State Park

Everyone loves dinosaurs. Explore the remains of ancient history at Dinosaur Valley State Park, where you can walk in dinosaur tracks preserved in the bed of the Paluxy River. Just an hour’s drive from Irving, take advantage of the opportunity to tour, go horseback riding, and camp amongst fossil remains that will definitely intrigue minds of all ages. Other activities include biking, swimming, fishing, and watching wildlife.
